Moses said “This is the thing which the Lord commanded that you should do and the glory of the Lord shall appear unto you. Go to the altar!” (Lev. 9:6-7) If you want a visitation from the Lord go to the altar. The Lord said, “The place where I record my name there is where I will meet with you.” The altars were called by the name of the Lord. (Gen 22:14) And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-Jireh: as it is said to this day “In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.”
In Judges 6:24 Gideon built an altar unto the Lord and called it Jehovah-Shalom, meaning the Lord is my peace, or serenity. Gideon was afraid, filled with fear, unbelief and doubt. Gideon spoke” If the Lord is with us then where are all of His miracles? Why then is all of this befallen us? But now the Lord has forsaken us.”
In Genesis 17:15 Moses built an altar and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi or The Lord is our Banner! At this altar we find victory, strength, and the knowledge that we are more than conquerors through Christ who gives us the victory! Israel was fighting Amalek at Rephidim. Moses stood upon the top of the mountain with Aaron and Hur while Joshua was in the valley fighting with the army of Israel against the forces of evil.
