The Altar Speaks – Part 5 – The Altar of Peace

In Judges 6:24 Gideon built an altar unto the Lord and called it Jehovah-Shalom, meaning the Lord is my peace, or serenity.  Gideon was afraid, filled with fear, unbelief and doubt.  Gideon spoke” If the Lord is with us then where are all of His miracles?  Why then is all of this befallen us?  But now the Lord has forsaken us.”  The Lord looked upon him and said, “Go in this thy might and thou shalt save Israel from the hands of Midian.  Have not I sent thee?”

At this altar Gideon learned that “If God is for us than who can be against us?” Gideon also learned about the ordination of God.  “This is thy strength,” saith the Lord, “have not I sent thee, have not I given thee a charge, and not only this shall I not go with thee.”  Not only was God sending him, but he was going with him.  At this altar Gideon would learn there is peace in God.

The Lord said all that all that keep their minds on thee shall be kept in perfect peace.  Beloved, at the altar of God we can get all that we need all of our provisions are met.  In His presence there is peace of mind, joy unspeakable and full of glory!  Whether it is Jehovah-Jireh (the Lord is our provider), Jehovah-Rapha (the Lord who heals),  Jehovah-Raah (the Lord our shepherd), Jehovah-Tsidkinu (the Lord our righteousness) which we receive from being with the Lord and it frees us from guilt, shame and condemnation, or Jehovah-Shammah (the Lord is present).  We all need this reality to stand firm!
